Pink Tongue & Cheek Gin and Tonic Recipe

In need of a cheeky twist this weekend? We’ve got a great cocktail recipe for you to try.

Craft a fruity cocktail using our Tonic Water Flavouring Kit, Top Shelf Pink Grapefruit Gin and Top Shelf Blood Orange Gin flavourings. This is a gin-based cocktail with a citrus fusion of pink grapefruit, blood orange and lime, with aromatic complexity of juniper, and spicy citrus gin botanical notes.

Our recipe covers large batch creation by kegging or make smaller amounts using a soda maker.

Find the kegging equipment and ingredients at your local home brew shop.

Ingredients

•       Filtered water (19L)

•       Tonic Water Flavouring Kit

•       Top Shelf Pink Grapefruit Gin flavouring

•       Distilled Spirit 40% (2.25L)

•       Top Shelf Blood Orange Gin flavouring

•       Orange

•       Pink peppercorns

 

Equipment for kegging technique

•       Kegerator system with CO2 cylinder

•       Corny keg (19L)

 

Steps for kegging technique

  1. Shake bottle of Top shelf Blood Orange Gin well and add contents to 2.25 L (76 US fl oz) of 40% ABV distilled neutral spirit or gin.
  2. Ensure the corny keg is cleaned and sanitised.
  3. Add 3L of filtered water to the corny keg.
  4. Add the Tonic Water Flavouring Kit to the corny keg, swirl (with lid closed) or stir to dissolve the tonic flavouring.
  5. Add 10ml Top Shelf Pink Grapefruit Gin.
  6. Add 2.25L of blood orange gin.
  7. Top up to 19L with filtered water.
  8. Force carbonate at 4°C and 15psi for 2 weeks.
  9. Serve with a slice of an orange couple of pink peppercorns and enjoy.

 

Equipment for soda maker & jerrycan technique

•       Soda maker unit with >250g cylinder

•       Soda maker bottle (1L)

•       A sealable bucket or jerrycan with a tap (>20L capacity).

 

Steps for soda maker & jerrycan technique

  1. Shake bottle of Top Shelf Blood Orange Gin well and add contents to 2.25 L (76 US fl oz) of 40% ABV distilled neutral spirit or gin.
  2. Ensure the jerrycan or bucket is cleaned and sanitised.
  3. Add 3L of filtered water to the jerrycan or bucket.
  4. Add the Tonic Water Flavouring Kit to the jerrycan or bucket, swirl (with lid closed) or stir to dissolve the tonic flavouring.
  5. Add 10ml Top Shelf Pink Grapefruit Gin.
  6. Top up to 19L with filtered water.

Please follow the next instructions closely to save you wasting tonic and some cleaning.

  1. Fill the soda maker bottle (1L) with tonic water.
  2. Install the filled soda maker bottle into the unit.
  3. Press the button quickly and listen for a short burst.
  4. Important: Wait until the bubbles have settled.
  5. Quickly press the button again and listen for a short burst.
  6. Important: Wait until the bubbles have settled.
  7. Repeat until the soda machine releases the pressure indicating the correct carbonation.
  8. Add a shot of blood orange gin to a tall glass with ice.
  9. Fill the glass with carbonated tonic water.
  10. Serve with a slice of orange and a some pink peppercorns and enjoy.
  11. Consume your newly made tonic water within 3 weeks of making.
