Following World Whisky Day over the weekend, we decided to test our palate and brush up on our blending skills by getting creative with some unique whiskey style flavourings in the Still Spirits Whiskey Craft Kit.

The Whiskey Craft Kit is a great way to experiment with flavours and create your own unique alcoholic drinks by simply blending and flavouring neutral alcohol or vodka – in your own way.

With a cocktail already in mind, we decided to create a whisky style flavoured drink that had fresh fruit flavours, a bit of a zing to it, but with a definite smokiness on the finish.

And it couldn’t have been simpler to make!

  • Simply shake each flavour before use and add them in to your spirit one by one.
  • Once all the flavours have been added, shake the spirit bottle well.
  • Leave for 24-48 hours before sampling.
  • Enjoy neat, in a cocktail, store for later, or give as a great gift!

So, how did it taste?

Hints of fresh apple, pear and the spark of zest like in elegant malts. Fruity sweetness, cinnamon, and pepper with a smoky finish.

John Collins Cocktail Recipe

whiskey collins cocktail

It might be one of the easiest whiskey cocktails to make, but its simplicity doesn't make it any less delicious, especially with the smooth, flavoursome whiskey style drink we’ve just made:

Did you know that a ‘John Collins’ is basically a whiskey sour, with club soda?! A timeless recipe where tart lemon plays off the sweeter notes in the whiskey, but with a refreshing quench from the addition of sparkling water. So essentially, a whisky sour in a highball. It’s simple, but a great way to show off your favourite whiskey as it doesn’t mask any of the good flavours 😊

Ingredients:

  • 40 mL Whiskey
  • 30 mL Fresh lemon juice
  • 30 mL Simple syrup
  • Club soda
  • Ice
  • Maraschino cherry & orange slice

Method:

  1. Add the whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup to a highball glass with ice and stir to combine.
  2. Top up with club soda.
  3. Garnish with the maraschino cherry and orange slice

TIP: Always use fresh-squeezed lemon juice, to ensure a fresh, zesty zing!
